Protein Cheatsheet

Here is a selection of what we consider healthy protein powders. We will keep this page live and update these as more become available or known to us.

Please know that none of the links below are affiliate links. We do not make any money from the recommendations below. We simply want to offer great information and show you the products we believe are best.

Here are the criteria for what we define as healthy.

  • Good quality whole protein source; whey, egg, or [pea & rice combined]

  • No Ultra-Processed Food (UPF) ingredients e.g. sweeteners, gums, emulsifiers

  • High Protein Content per Serving

  • No or Very Low Sugar

  • High in Leucine (a very important amino acid i.e. protein ‘building block’)

  • Minimal Processing

  • Ethical & Clean Sourcing

We have given flavoured and unflavoured versions. Please be aware that many brands meet the criteria with their unflavoured product, however, once they become for example ‘chocolate flavoured’, they no longer do. That’s usually because they will need to add sugar, UPF ingredients and/or processing to production. This can even vary between flavours for the same brand e.g. the vanilla flavour is fine, but the strawberry version isn’t, so do take note. The good ones use natural flavourings & sugar (such as coconut sugar) to make them flavoured.

We have also included vegan options.

Although none of them taste ‘bad’, you will notice that taste didn’t make our criteria. This is because ‘amazing’ taste often requires adding lots of UPF ingredients. Even the ones that aren’t the tastiest, you will get used to. The unflavoured ones are there to be added to things like electrolytes without being overly noticed anyway.

Sadly, the good quality ones are expensive. The cheapest one we have found is the Bulk unflavoured (be careful to choose the right one, as many others from that brand have UPF). Our personal favourites are Organic Protein Co. (for convenience, being on Amazon Prime and reliably consistent with the above criteria across the entire range of flavours) and Naked Whey (for taste, but distribution to the UK can be tricky).

The good news is that once you’ve found one you’re happy with, you can stick with it for good! It’s worth investing the time up front to find one you’re happy with, then you can stick with it. We’ll soon be launching our YouTube channel to give you more useful bits like this, so keep an eye out for us.
